Korean trot singer Im Ji-an, whose younger sister was allegedly killed by a Mokpo taxi driver at the weekend, has pleaded with the media and public to stop spreading false claims about her sibling.

Im's sister, 28, died after an alleged failed sexual assault in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, around 3:40 a.m. Saturday.

Police arrested the taxi driver on Sunday after Im's family filed a missing person report.

Initial reports labeled the case a crime of opportunity by a first-time offender against a drunken passenger, but it was later revealed that Im's sister was not drunk and the assailant was allegedly a repeat offender.

"Her (victim's) colleague, who was with her that night, told us that she was not drunk when she left for home," Im posted on Facebook. "The assailant was also a repeat offender who had a history of nine criminal cases, including a case of assault and unlawful confinement."

Im criticized the taxi company for hiring the driver.

"Please stop accusing my sister of being drunk, who lost her life in an unfortunate incident," Im pleaded. "It is ridiculous that being drunk, riding alone, falling asleep or traveling at late hours makes someone a target for such a horrendous crime."
